Day 47-Venezia!-Verona!-Saturday-3/19/11

Woke up this morning at the hostel.  Got ready and checked out by about 10am.  After we walked a block and our noses pointed us in the direction of a delicious bakery!  Becky and I enjoyed a chocolate croissant and cappuccino that filled us with delight.  After our breakfast we made our way slowly to the train station.

Along the way I bought my first scarf!  It's a multi colored scarf which is perfect because I can match it with many things!  I think the thing that always stopped me from buying a scarf was 1. not knowing how to wear it and 2. not knowing what to wear it with!  This one is perfect for me though because I can wear it with a lot of things :)  It's also really soft which is a bonus!

We reached the train station and bought our tickets from Venice to Verona.  It was only about an hour to an hour an a half train ride which was nice.  Once we got to Verona it was sunny and pretty warm out.  Becky and I tried walking to find out bed and breakfast, but after an hour we were hot, bothered, and tired, we made our way back to the train station and gave up.  We got a taxi to our B&B and it was actually a really decent price which was nice.

Once we reached the B&B we were in heaven!  We walked into a super nice modern apartment.  Really really cool.  That was just our check in apartment though which kind of worried me.  However, we crossed our fingers and had our lucky Capri bells in hand and to our luck, the B&B ended up being the cutest place ever!  It was like staying in a cute cabin kind of.  We passed the morning buffet where we would get to take our breakfast on trays up to our room and made our way upstairs one more level.

We had to share the bathroom with another couple, but it was super big and clean so we had nothing to complain about, after all our last bathroom we had shared with seven other girls!  We walked into the room and it was better than I could have imagined!  After being in sketchy places and hostels this was the perfect end to our trip!  It had a cute pink down comforter, dark wood vanity and wardrobe, and cute little windows with red curtains.

As soon as the guy left after showing us our room Becky and I closed the door and did our happy dance!  We were super exited about sleeping somewhere this comfortable and cozy.  They even gave us each three towels which was more than we could hope for since we had been using our already worn t-shirts to dry off at the last few places, yes, when you are a college student studying abroad and traveling and staying in hostels, you learn exactly what it means to "rough it".

After freshening up Becky and I got ready and headed out to explore.  We grabbed our rain jackets and umbrellas though because it looked like it was clouding up.  We walked just down the street and stopped for lunch at a cute café.  We each got a Panini and a cappuccino to wake ourselves up a bit, both were very good!

As we were checking out the young man working there, that Becky kept saying reminded her of her home stay brother when she studied abroad in Spain, asked us where we were from.  We told him America and he asked where and we said Minnesota and you know what he said back?  TIMBERWOLVES!! HAHA!! How funny?!  Of all sports and all places he knew of the MN Timberwolves!  I must say that was pretty cool.

We left the café and further down the road we found the amphitheater where in the summertime Romeo  and Juliet is performed.  It's really cool, it looks like a smaller version of the coliseum.  We walked around it and headed to find Juliette's supposed balcony and the statue of Juliet.  I'm glad Becky read up on this place because I only had a faint idea of what we were about to see.  Juliet's balcony and the statue of Juliet was on a side road where you walked through a gate and then an alley where people were signing their names + their lover's name and hearting it, because it was the wall of love, then into a courtyard where the balcony and statue was.

It was quite the packed place.  Becky and I waited in line for a tourist group to move out of the way and then got to snap pictures of us touching Juliet's right boob, apparently Becky read that it was supposed to give us good luck?  I'm not really sure, but what a funny picture huh?  I wish we would have wrote on the wall, but we were bugged by the crowd and kind of forgot to do it on the way out.

After we decided to find Romeo's place.  It was on the map we had bought, but we walked awhile and never found it so we think it was a tourist hoax.  After we found a piazza with a market where we browsed and Becky found a really cute scarf and then we found a café to sit down at and enjoy an afternoon beverage.

We were a little hungry too, so with our drinks we shared a caprese salad which is just fresh tomato, mozzarella, and basil with olive oil and we added some balsamic to it.  It was delicious and perfect timing because just as we sat down a huge thunder rolled and the rain began to drop.  After we sat and rested and enjoyed our beverages and afternoon snack we got back up and made our way back to the B&B.  We passed many cute shops along the way and browsed a few clothing stores.  We also got two super cool postcards and a bottle of wine before making it bake to the B&B.

The rain had stopped after the café all the way until we stepped into our B&B.  We were super lucky because the minute we got up to the room it began to pour!  At the B&B we rested and caught up in our journals while enjoying a glass of wine and watching MTV on our small flat screen TV.  It was quite relaxing.  Later on in the night, it was hard to get up the motivation to get ready for dinner!

Eventually, we made our way back out of the B&B and towards the restaurant area for dinner.  We found a cute place that seemed pretty busy called Olive or Olives, I think?  Something like that.  We had a caprese type salad with penne noodles, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil.  It was interesting because it was kind of cold compared to most pasta I've had in Italy, but still very good.

After dinner Becky and I tried to look for the famous love potion we had read about in our travel books, but after feeling kind of dumb and no luck we gave up quickly on that as well.  We went inside a cute bookstore and while I read Cinderella in Italian, Becky browsed puzzles for her boyfriend.  She found a really cool one of Capri and after that we were pretty tuckered out and made our way back to the B&B.  I forgot, we also decided to try one of the two gelato shops on the way after dinner and I must say, it was probably the worst gelato I have ever tried!  It tasted kind of sour and gross.  Very disappointing!

Becky and I got a little hype while walking back to our B&B and it was kind of sprinkling out so we began dancing in the streets, tap dancing and turning.  It was pretty funny because some people stopped and would start watching us and we would just laugh and keep dancing.  Eventually we made our way back and fell asleep in probably the most comfortable bed I have been in yet!
