Day 54-PARIS!!!-Saturday-3/26/11

Woke up this morning and went down to our free breakfast.  Some delicious cereal, yes, first time I have eaten any cereal here and I actually liked it, weird, I know.  I don't really care for cereal in the first place, then to add milk that isn't cold/ you don't know if it's whole or skim or something else, not usually my cup of tea, but hey, I'm in Paris, so why not man up?  :)

After breakfast we went up to the room and got ready for the day.  We decided to write Emily, Liz, and Clara a note because they were arriving today.  We had planned to climb the Eiffel tower at 4pm and hoped they would meet us there…. Unfortunately, it rained.  We'll get to that later.

Molly, Jodine, and I headed out on our walk to find the flea market.  We didn't really realize how far away it was until we got there.  It was fun to explore though and see the buildings.  Paris is absolutely beautiful, I can't stress it enough.  Every building has cute little balconies and the pubs/cafés are all really cute and people are actually nice here!  I don't know where this "rude people" idea comes from when you talk about Paris.

Anyways, we made it to the flea market and it was pretty big.  We walked through all the stands.  Molly got her friends some bracelets and herself a pair of sunglasses.  Jodine got her mom a necklace and I bought myself a new pair of chucks.  Chucks are tennis shoes, gray ones to be exact.  I was so happy with my purchase I wore them home, lol ok, my feet were also killing me.  I have learned that studying abroad = walking a lot which = worn down shoes which = my feet hurting constantly.  Yes, worse than dance, never thought I'd see the day! Slash, dance I feel like they never even hurt this bad… well maybe tap blisters could compare, but I would still tap with bleeding heels… ok now this is getting disgusting, back to my day.

After the flea market we stopped and got lunch in a box from a cute café.  It was a steal!  We got a baguette sandwich, drink, and a pastry for like 6 euro!  Super deal!  We decided to take it and look for a park.  Unfortunately, we didn't really find a park, but more of a roundabout thing with park benches and lots of pigeons.  I was worried about getting pooped on again, but we made it through our meal with no poop!  Hooray!!! :) Hahah who would've thought getting pooped on by a pigeon would actually be a concern in one's lifetime??

After lunch the girls and I decided to take the metro to see the Notre Dame.  It was sweet, such a beautiful area and church which is huge by the way!  I had no idea!  It's also along the river :)  We snapped some pics there and noticed that the sky was clouding up so we decided to head over to the Eiffel tower in hopes we could climb it before the rain.

The Eiffel tower is as amazing as ever!  An absolutely beautiful tower!  It's actually bronze in color, I never really knew that, I always thought it was silver, silly me!  We decided to walk to the end of the garden and take some pics.  That's where I got my cart wheel picture which I was super excited about just as the huge rain drops began to fall :-/  Bittersweet moment.  We ran to a bus stop for cover and sat on the bench hoping the rain would let up so we could make it back to the metro stop before getting completely soaked.  I was sad we didn't get to climb the Eiffel tower :(  I had hopes though that maybe, just maybe, I'd be able to climb it tomorrow….

While sitting at the bus stop I saw a pink limo pass by!  That was awesome!!  I'm totally getting a pink limo for    my bachelorette party one day *cough*cough* Sisters and Friends remember this memo *cough*cough* lol that's if I get married ;) hahaha Anyways, the rain did eventually let up and we ran to the metro.

Holy cow, we had no idea how crazy the metro gets the moment it rains!  It was an absolute zoo down there!  Crowded as all get out!  And out of the blue, we ran into Clara, Emily, and Liz!  Who would've thought in a city as big as Paris we'd actually find them??!  Especially with the rain changing our plans!  It was lucky too because we thought our metro tickets would still be good, but they were not :(  Luckily, Liz, Emily, and Clara had bought ten off the bat so they let us each borrow one and saved us from being stuck in a super huge ticket line!

We road the metro and got back to the hostel.  We decided to rest a little bit and let the other girls check into their room and get settled in.  Then an hour or two later we met up to go to dinner.  We just walked down the hill and decided to eat at a place right across from the Moulin Rouge.  It was good, a tourist place, it had fajitas :)  I shared them with Emily and enjoyed a small warm chocolate cake to finish it off.  The food was alright, but the company was the best!  :)  It was super cool we were able to meet up with the other half of the girls!  At the end of dinner our waiter dropped off a note that asked us to come back later for drinks, haha, yep. Not.  :)  People are very forward in Europe.  I thought it was just Rome, but seriously, it's everywhere!

After dinner Liz, Em, and Clara went to bed because they had a big day of traveling and Jo, Mol, and I decided to go on a little walk.  We found this sign that said American lunch or food or something and decided to go check out what they thought of as "American".  You know what it was?  Wait for it… A BUFFET!!! HOW SAD IS THAT?!!  People in Europe must really think we are just very fat people who like to eat… yes, I love to eat, who doesn't?  But, a buffet??! Really?? REALLY!!?? What a sad impression we've put in their minds…

Anyways, after we walked back towards the hostel and stopped in a cute Irish pub for a beer.  We sat and talked for awhile enjoying our beers, first place I've seen a pool table and darts by the way, and boy how I miss that!  Bars that actually have stuff to do!  Haha after we finished our beers we headed home and off to bed.  It was another really good day in Paris despite the rain, because another awesome thing about Paris, people aren’t trying to sell you umbrellas every step of the way!  :D  Something I do NOT miss about Rome!!!
