Day 11-Firenze-2/7/11

Monday, oh Monday, back in school again, blah!  I guess I can't complain because walking along the river to get to school and being in Florence is way better than trudging through the cold and snow in Kato.  :D  Sorry, I should probably stop rubbing it in everyone's face that I'm not in the cold/snow, it's bad karma.  I apologize.  Anyways after class today we went and found a kebab place that was actually super close to our school.  It was pretty good, but not as awesome as the one in Venice.  After our lunch we walked to board the bus again and headed off to visit our first Tuscan vineyard.  It was really cool to see all the vineyards as we drove out there even though it wasn't in season.  We got there and they showed us the cellar which had these huge barrels (I will put a pic up) that they would use for 45 years and every 6 years someone would crawl inside and clean and scrape the inside of them.  After the cellar we went inside and there was already an assortment of bread with olive oil, bread with tomato sauce, bread with prosciutto and salami to try with our wine.  The vineyard specialized in Chianti so we tried two different Chianti's, plus their reserve Chianti which was only made by their oldest vines.  It was fun to actually have knowledge of wine (thanks to Neighbor's) and I had no idea how many people don't have any knowledge at all.  Most kids thought we would get like a full glass of wine, lol.  Silly.  We also learned that the olive oil that was on our bread was homemade from their vineyard and it was really really good!  An immediate light bulb popped on in my head, MOM.  Haha I had to get my mom some EVOO because she always talks about it.  :) YAY!  We also tried their dessert wine which was awful.  I did not like it one bit.  They served it with biscotti's though which was good because it gave me something to take the taste away.  After the wine tasting we took a few more pictures of the landscape and headed back to the hotel.  That's pretty much the most of my day, we had dinner at the hotel, but I can't remember what we ate, and then I went back to my room and studied for my quiz the next day.
