Gooooood Morning Everyone! Today Becky woke up super early and left for St. Peter's Basilica/ The Vatican Area. She decided to let me sleep, which was probably a good idea after our night out. I slept in late and slowly got ready for school. I realized for the first time ever I actually didn't have Italian homework which was pretty cool.
I went to Italian class and it was a really nice day so everyone was hounding our teacher to skip our break and get our early. Unfortunately, this did not happen. At the break I found Becky in the computer room and we went and grabbed a bite to eat. I had some mixed vegetables, they hit the spot :) After I headed back to class and she just hung around the school area. When I was done with class Becky, Molly, and I went and got chocolate dipped gelato because I had to introduce her to it :D
We made our way from gelato to the Trevi fountain and took a few pictures and I finally got to throw a coin in! I have been waiting to do that for forever! I was going to do it the first day I got to Rome and visited the fountain, but it was super packed and not worth it. This Tuesday evening wasn't bad though it was around 6pm and we got a few good pics and a coin toss in :D I was really happy!
After the Trevi Fountain we made our way back to the apartment where Becks and I packed up our bags for our trip to Naples, Capri, Pompeii, Venice, and Verona then we headed out for some dinner with Molly. We went to a pizzeria near our apartment that we had seen earlier on Sunday when we were looking for a place to watch the soccer game. It was really good, as are most places here in Roma. We each got our own pizza and a bottle of house red wine to share :)
We were on a time schedule and after dinner we grabbed our bags from my apartment and Becky and I headed to termini to buy our train tickets and head to Napoli. Our train ride was about 4 hours I want to say. We didn’t arrive until about 11:30pm in Napoli/Naples. The train ride was not too bad. It was just Becky and I and another man in our six person cart. A pretty empty train compared to normal. I thought he seemed a little strange, but after he left Becky and I an unopened bottle of beer I decided he was a pretty decent fellow ;) Haha, we have yet to drink that beer.
We arrived in Naples about 11:30pm as I said earlier and it was kind of scary. I had envisioned Naples to be a little nicer than it was, but as we walked from the train station to the bus station there was trash everywhere on the streets and prostitutes on every street corner, plus tons of homeless people. Not exactly the best place for two college girls to be walking alone at night.
We got to the bus stop and talked to this guy who spoke English pretty decently, but after being surrounded by a group of men who did not speak English we decided to head back from the bus station to the train station to get a taxi. It was probably the best/safest move we could've made. There were no places open to buy bus passes anyways and we did not one to get a fine for traveling without a pass.
There were cabs ready to go at the train station so we hopped in and asked for our hostel. He seemed to know where it was and told us the price before we even left which was nice because we knew what to expect. However, when we arrived at our stop, paid the cab driver, and got out, we realized that it was not our hostel. Scared and alone with no idea where we were Becky and I tried not to panic. Luckily, within minutes, even though it felt longer, the cab driver pulled back around and honked at us. He rolled down his window apologizing that he got confused and dropped us off at the wrong place.
I was a little nervous to hope back in his cab, but I never would have thought a cab driver would care enough to come back after we paid him, so I figured he was actually being genuinely nice. He drove about two more minutes and this time dropped us off at the correct stop. Becky and I were counting our blessings and sighing in relief to finally have made it around 12:30am to our hostel.
We were buzzed in and took the elevator to the 7th floor where a nice Australian man checked us in and showed us on a free map how to get to Pompeii and Capri from our hostel. He was very helpful and after getting the keys we went to our room, put our bags in our lockers, set our alarms, and crashed. We were completely exhausted from our night and I didn't even think twice about the four random people I was rooming with that were already sleeping, I fell asleep hard and slept like a baby through the night.
